Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday upped his ante, wearing black badge and replaying to the video-clippings of the earlier speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi promising special status to Andhra Pradesh in the Legislative Assembly in order to criticise the latter for failing to keep his promises.

“The black badge symbolises our protest against the Centre’s unfulfilled assurances regarding special category status and the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act,” said Mr Naidu. The Speaker, as well as TDP ministers and other public representatives, were also seen sporting the black badge in the Assembly.

The chief minister who delivered yet another long speech on the floor of the Assembly attacking the BJP leadership and the Central government first asked for the replay of the video-clippings of Mr Modi’s speeches during the campaign for 2014 elections andlater after becoming the Prime Minister on a screen specially put up for the purpose.

During the poll campaign at Tirumala the Prime Minister had said: “I promise that if you vote me to office in Delhi the special status package that has been promised to Seemandhra will be implemented as well as extended.”

His Hindi address was translated to Telugu by the BJP leader and current vice-president Venkaiah Naidu. Mr Modi had assured Me Naidu during his speech that he would help him in “building a capital city that will even dwarf New Delhi in size.”

In another clipping the Prime Minister, who came to Amaravati to lay the foundation, is seen iterating his promise of implementing the AP Reorganisation Act in “letter and spirit.” He also spoke on the camaraderie of Mr Modi-Mr Naidu that will develop the state.

Mr Naidu on Wednesday sought to expose PM Modi for failing to keep his promises through these video-clippings.

The chief minister who is incensed by the BJP’s attempt at mudslinging through corruption charges attempted to hit back saying he had carefully preserved all documents about expenditure knowing fully well that the national party would put the blame on the state government.

He criticised the BJP for playing for short-term political gain but said it would not benefit the country.

Mr Naidu has been attempting to ensure debate in the Parliament on the no-confidence motion to highlight the circumstances of the state after bifurcation but lamented that the BJP was scuttling his efforts.
