NABARD extends all time high financial assistance to HP in 2016-17

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural development (NABARD) extended an all time high financial assistance to the state of Himachal Pradesh this financial year, which was Rs.655 Crore more than the previous year.

NABARD chief general manager Deepak Kumar informed that during the year 2016-17 NABARD had extended an all-time high financial assistance of Rs.2,345 Crore for the development of agriculture and the rural sector in the state.

While, Rs 500 Crore was provided to state government for construction of roads, bridges as well as creation of irrigation and drinking water facilities in rural areas, a financial assistance of Rs1,825 Crore was given to rural banks for providing crop loans and creation of agricultural assets to farmers of the state, he said.

Rs 20 Crore were released to M/s Cremica Mega Food Park Pvt. Ltd. for establishing a Mega Food Park in Una district with a total financial outlay of Rs 100 Crore, he said, adding that this project will give fillip to vegetable and fruit production and benefit the Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs) functioning in the state.

He disclosed that as many as 57 Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) which have been formed and at the instance of NABARD, the state government has taken a policy decision for issue of license to FPOs for seed, fertilizer, pesticides.

To create awareness about cashless transactions in rural areas, 1,470 financial literacy programmes was conducted and also to help farmers to move toward digital India, Rs.29.24 lakh have been sanctioned for issuing Rupay Kisan card to Cooperative Banks and Himachal Pradesh Gramin Bank, he said.

An amount of Rs.11.23 Crore was released to banks and NGOs for conducting digital financial literacy camps, financial literacy centres, Rupay KCC, Micro ATMs, rural bank branches connectivity through VSAT and Bank Sakhi programmes, said Deepak Kumar.

NABARD has launched “e-Shakti” programme in Mandi district under which SHGs are being brought on digital platform to ensure transparency and 4,327 SHGs have been brought on the web portal.
