Police on Sunday arrested Anindita Pal Dey, the wife of “murdered” lawyer Rajat Dey after she wilted under relentless interrogation by investigators and admitted her “direct complicity” in the killing.

A Bidhannagar commissionerate statement quoting the deputy commissioner, detective department, said that Anindita Pal Dey had been arrested in connection with the murder of her husband Rajat Dey after she admitted to her direct involvement in the murder.

“She finally acknowledged,” said an investigator, at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate that her husband had been “murdered” after her frantic efforts for the last six days to frustrate the probe proved futile.

A senior officer at the Bidhannagar commissionerate said that the breakthrough in the Rajat Dey murder case came after a “relentless interrogation” by senior officers of the Bidhannaar Commissionerate had forced Anindita to buckle under pressure and spill the beans. She finally said that her husband had been strangulated with the cable of a mobile charger after earlier claiming that her husband had committed suicide using a bed sheet.

During the interrogation, Anindita’s suicide claim, which she had put forward till yesterday, did not cut much ice with the investigators as they contradicted her claim armed with the post-mortem report, which had confirmed the wound found around the throat of Rajat was from a sharp-edged implement.

Finally, she wilted and admitted that a cable of a mobile charger had been used to strangulate him. She admitted, moreover, that she herself was directly involved in the entire operation.

While the police have arrested Anindita, the investigators are sure that a third person must be involved in the operation.

Police had already seized Rajat’s cell phone to verify his call lists.

Interestingly, the couple had a tiff between them over an alleged “extra-marital affair” of Anindita’s just before the incident on Saturday, police said.

According to investigators, Anindita had claimed during interrogation that they had a quarrel after returning from a dinner at a restaurant. She had decided not to sleep with her husband and to instead retire to a separate room. This had prompted Rajat to commit suicide using a bed sheet, she had told the investigators.
