MP Congress plans march for women’s safety

women’s safety.

Alleging that crimes against women were increasing at an unprecedented and uncontrollable rate in Madhya Pradesh and the BJP state government was unable to bring them under control, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh announced on Thursday that he would carry out a ‘Nyay Yatra’ (March for Justice) on 5 and 6 April to press for safety, security and honour of women.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday afternoon, Singh pointed out that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was making only false announcements and trying to divert the attention of people from the unabated crimes against women in the state.

Singh alleged that while the police were harassing several innocent people too in its drive of public shaming and parading of anti-social elements allegedly involved in crimes against women, several workers and activists of the BJP and its affiliated organisations, who were accused of crimes against women, were still untouched and roamed around freely.

Emphasising the recent case of suicide by State PWD Minister Rampal Singh’s daughter-in-law Preeti Raghuvanshi, Ajay Singh said the police had not yet registered an FIR against the minister and his son, Girijesh, who was the deceased woman’s husband. Singh alleged that it was under pressure form the CM that the police were not acting against Rampal Singh and his son.

The senior Congress leader said that the Nyay Yatra would begin on 5 April from Udaipura, the hometown of Preeti Raghuvanshi, and it would end in Bhopal the next day. MP State Congress president Arun Yadav and other leaders would also accompany Ajay Singh in the yatra.
