The police have halved the security cover of separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Mirwaiz was provided Z-category security cover in 1990 when his father Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq was killed by terrorists.
It is learnt that the strength of 16 security personnel provided to Mirwaiz has been cut to eight.
The Mirwaiz had come under criticism across the country following lynching of a police officer Mohammad Ayub Pandith outside the Srinagar's Jamia Masjid where he gives sermons.

Demand for withdrawing security of separatists has been growing because of their pro-Pakistan postures and instigation of the youth in Kashmir against India.
