Minor’s rape-murder in Arunachal: Mob storm police station, kill 2 accused

A mob consisting around 1000 people on Monday stormed Tezu police station, in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, and bludgeoned two people to death, who were accused in murder and rape of a minor girl.

According to media reports, the mob reached the police station and demanded that the two accused be handed over to them.

However, when their demands were not met by the police, they overpowered the police, broke the lock of the cell and dragged both the accused out of their cell and beat them to death. Later, they dumped their corpses on a road.

The Arunachal Police have registered a murder case against unknown persons and investigation into the case is underway.

While, three police officers of Tezu police station have been suspended for failing to stop the mob and the superintendent of police of Lohit district has been transferred.

On 17 February, a police party found the body and severed head of the five-year-old girl from Namgo village, in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, who went missing on 12 February.

On 18 February, Sanjay Sobor (30) and Jagdish Lohar (25) were arrested by the police for raping and killing the girl.
The 30-year-old Sobor had confessed to abducting, raping and later killing the minor girl, with a weapon belong to Jagdish Lohar.
