Minor killed, three injured in four accidents in Kolkata

A 12-year old boy was killed and three persons, including a police officer, were injured in different road accidents at Garden Reach, Chitpur, Gariahat and Entally areas of the city.At around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, an accident took place on Garden Reach Road near Kacchi Sadak crossing when a motorcycle moving at a high speed suddenly skidded off and came under the rear wheel of a lorry.

The motorcyclist escaped unhurt but the pillion rider, Ajoy Singh (12), suffered multiple injuries. Ajoy,a Bichali Ghat resident, did not have any headgear on.He was declared dead on arrival at SSKM hospital. A 22-year-old motorcyclist, while moving west near the Bondel Road flyover at around 7.30 p.m. yesterday, lost control over his twowheeler and fell down.

Identified as Asanul Haque, a Topsia Road resident, he did not have any headgear on. He sustained an injury on his left leg for which he was initially admitted to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, from where he had to be shifted to to NRS Medical College and Hospital. Around 1.15 p.m. on Sunday, an assistant sub-inspector of the Muchipara police station was knocked down by a private bus on Beliaghata Road. MM Tiwari, the victim, was returning home after duty when he was hit by the vehicle.

Initially he was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital with injuries on his chest and hands. Later, the police officer was admitted to a private hospital in Ekbalpore.

The involved vehicle managed to escape from the spot after the incident.In a separate incident, around 12.30 p.m. yesterday, a 60 years old bicyclist was knocked down by a car on Tala bridge.

Laxman Ghosh, a Barasat resident, was admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He has been admitted to the Casualty Block observation ward. The car driver was arrested.
