MHADA lottery: Of 65,126 applicants, 819 get houses

Of the 65,126 applicants, 819 lucky ones walked away with a smile and surety of a owning a house as Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) conducted lottery on Friday.

The lottery was conducted At Rangsharda Hall in Bandra. A large number of applicants had converged for the event as the authorities announced the winners one by one. MHADA webcasted the draw, which was viewed by 15,000 people on the Youtube. A video shared on the Facebook attracted 20,000 views.

As per reports, it was for the first time that MHADA’s prices breached the Rs.1-crore mark.

The flats in question included those at Siddhartha Nagar in Goregaon, Lower Parel, Powai, Sion’s Pratiksha Nagar, Chandivli, Mankhurd, Magathane, Charkop and Malwani in Malad. State minister of housing Ravindra Waikar said MHADA would ensure that the winners get good quality houses. “If any of the winners are dissatisfied, we will repair the houses,” he said.

MHADA houses are popular and much in demand for the simple reason that they are cheaper than the market price. As per reports, over the past 10 draws, 14.13 lakh applicants applied for 23,742 houses.
