A police team with the help of crime branch and cyber cell has arrested six Dalit youths on charges of spreading hate messages on social media. The accused were resorting to this tactic reportedly to avenge the death of Bheem Army district president Kamal Walia’s younger brother Sachin Walia on the day of Maharana Pratap jayanti.
Police have recovered seven mobile phones, hate messages and audio clips which were sent on more than 20 WhatsApp groups and Facebook being operated by Rahul of Meewa village of Hastinapur in Meerut and Nitin of Modinagar in Ghaziabad.
Speaking to the media, ADGP, Meerut zone, Prashant Kumar said that the arrested youths were operating 24 WhatsApp groups and in each group has 80 to 100 members. They further created sub-groups which helped in circulating hate messages among a large number of people within minutes.
The ADGP also played an audio clip, a conversation between Rahul and Nitin, in which they can be heard hatching a plan to take revenge of the death of Sachin Walia, who died in Saharanpur on May 9.
The ADGP  said they had arranged illegal weapons and vehicles to execute their plan to commit some killings in the region in the coming week as they wanted to take revenge of Sachin`s death which could have instigated caste clashes.
On the identification of Rahul and Nitin and inputs collected by intelligence and cyber cell  Deepak, Satveer and Ravindra Kumar of Meerut and Bunti of Modinagar were also arrested and booked under Sections 118, 120b, 156 A of the IPC.
Police will now seek their custody to interrogate them.  “We have also received complaints against some people rejoicing over the death of Sachin Walia and videos of celebrations were making rounds on social media,” said the ADGP, adding that action would also be taken against these people as well and efforts were on to identify them.
