MCD workers assaulted, dog-catching van vandalized by canine lovers in Rohini

A group of people was booked for allegedly assaulting workers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and vandalising a dog-catching van in Rohini on Monday, officials said Tuesday.

As per the FIR that was registered at K N Katju Marg Police Station, the incident happened on Monday morning, when a team of MCD officers, including driver Om Prakash and staff members Ratan, Deepak, Pushpendra, and Anil, responded to a stray dog complaint at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Sector 16, Rohini.

When the team captured one dog and proceeded to another location in Sector 3, they were allegedly attacked by dog lovers who released the captured dogs and vandalised their vehicle, officer Ravish Kasana said in his complaint.

The FIR read, “Where the team caught one more dog, a group of dog lovers confronted the staff and allegedly misbehaved with them.”

It further said that the group allegedly physically assaulted the MCD staff and freed the captured dogs on the school premises in Sector 16.

They allegedly vandalised the vehicle, breaking the glass, damaging the dog-catching net, logbook, and ignition key, and also stole the vehicle’s tools.

In this matter, a senior police officer said that they are analysing the CCTV footage to gauge what transpired.

Also, an MCD officer commenting on the incident asserted, “These individuals obstructed government work, assaulted our staff, and attempted to vandalise the vehicle, violating rules. We’ve filed a complaint and requested the police to take necessary action.”
