The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has caught an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Najafgarh Zone, accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000, officials said on Tuesday.

The federal probe agency registered a case against the accused on Monday on the charge of demanding 10 per cent of the total Rs 8,38,565 gratuity as a bribe from the complainant for releasing the amount.

The accused allegedly told the complainant that if he did not pay the bribe, the remaining amount of his gratuity wouldn’t be released.

Following negotiations, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 50000 as a reward for releasing the gratuity and also for processing the remaining gratuity funds of the complainant.

After receiving a complaint, CBI officials laid a trap on Monday and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant.

Following the arrest of the accused, the federal agency initiated investigation into the matter.
