The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified city-wide sanitation and dust mitigation efforts through extensive “Dust Free Roads” campaigns and mega sanitation drives across all 12 zones under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The initiatives involve deployment of mechanised road-sweeping machines, water sprinklers, jetting machines and sanitation teams to improve urban cleanliness and reduce dust pollution.

In Karol Bagh Zone, the MCD launched a 15-day “Dust Free Roads” campaign from May 18 covering major PWD roads, including Girdhari Lal Goswami Marg, Vande Matram Marg, Shankar Road, Rani Jhansi Road, DB Gupta Road and Najafgarh Road.

Intensive mechanised sweeping, removal of roadside dust and debris, washing of footpaths and water sprinkling were undertaken.

“Till 21.05.2026, around 15.2 km of roads were cleaned and approximately 20.8 MT of dust, along with 9.2 MT of garbage, was removed,” the civic body said on Saturday.

South Zone carried out a similar drive covering Dhaula Kuan to AIIMS, Nelson Mandela Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Rao Tula Ram Marg and Africa Avenue Marg.

“Around 8–10 sq km area was covered with deployment of nearly 100–150 sanitation workers along with MRS machines, tippers, trucks, sprinklers and jetting machines. Nearly 20.31 MT of dust and garbage were removed during the campaign,” the MCD said.

In the City SP Zone, a mega sanitation drive was conducted at Magazine Road, Aruna Nagar and Majnu Ka Tila with the participation of senior MCD officials and representatives of the Trade & Taxes Department, GNCTD.

The drive included sweeping of roads and lanes, lifting of garbage and C&D waste, and cleaning of green belts, CTUs, and footpaths, with the deployment of anti-smog guns, MRS, and jetting machines. Around 130 sanitation workers participated in the drive.

The Rohini Zone conducted a sanitation drive from the Rithala Metro Station to the Flood Control Drain, covering around 1.5 sq km area, during which nearly 4 MT of waste was collected. Awareness activities on plastic waste reduction and cleanliness were also carried out.

In the West Zone, sanitation drives covered Najafgarh Road (Rajouri Garden), Mahatma Gandhi Road, Punjabi Bagh, Outer Ring Road (Vikas Puri), Pankha Road and Janak Puri. Around 100–120 sanitation workers were deployed along with 10 tippers, 4 trucks, 6 MRS machines and 2 water sprinklers for mechanised cleaning and dust mitigation activities across approximately 12–15 sq km area.

“The MCD remains committed towards ensuring cleaner, dust-free and healthier surroundings across Delhi through regular monitoring, mechanised sanitation and active public participation,” the civic body stated.
