Massive hunt launched to track down missing 7-year old girl

Almost eight days on, with no trace of the missing seven year old Shruti, the people of Sirmaur and Shimla district in Himachal, have pitched in to launch a massive hunt for the girl.

The girl had gone missing on 2 July, from Teesri forest on the 16 kms track between Nohradhar and Choordhar temple situated about 12000 feet above sea level.

The girl hailing from a village in Chopal sub-division of Shimla district along with her parents was on way back home, after visiting the Churdeshwar Mahadev Temple located at the Churdhar peak, when suddenly she is said to have disappeared into thick fog that engulfed the forest trails.

The forest trail leading to the Churdhar peak has rocky steep trails overlooking deep gorges below. What may be termed as a first ever massive search operation in Himachal launched by the public, thousands of people that include natives of the girl’s village in Shimla district along with the public of Sirmaur district are racing against time to search her.

On Sunday, closing down the shops, the Beopar Mandal, Nohradhar also joined the police in the search operation. “All the shops were closed down yesterday, so that we all could also volunteer to help to search the missing girl, “said Joginder Singh President Beopar Mandal Nohradhar.

Haripurdhar Temple Committee has also dispatched a team of young men to forest pitch in the search operations. Since the last few days along other than the family and relatives of the girl, the police, home guard and forest department were already on the job to trace the missing girl.

People camping in the forests, are armed with sickle and torch for their safety from wild animals and the ongoing search operations are being conducted day and night.

Fearing any wild animal having attacked the girl, after she lost her way the public is not only combing the dense forest, but also searching the caves as the area is also known to have bears.

Sirmaur district Superintendent of Police, Rohit Malpani said that an FIR has been registered for the missing girl and are looking for all possible clues.
