A massive fire erupted at a chemical factory in North East Delhi’s Sabhapur, officials said on Friday.
The incident triggered panic among residents as thick black smoke billowed into the sky, which was visible from several kilometres away.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Sonia Vihar Police Station, the Delhi Police said.
The Delhi Fire Service said, “On receiving information, multiple fire tenders were rushed to the site from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to contain the fire.”
An officer said firefighters are currently engaged in battling the blaze and trying to prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
No casualties have been reported so far, the officer added.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, although a detailed investigation into the matter is underway.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and urged residents to stay indoors due to the risk of toxic fumes. Emergency services and disaster management teams are on standby.
