West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wished speedy recovery to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is visiting US for a medical treatment.

The Chief Minister in a tweet said, “Best wishes for a speedy recovery to @manoharparrikar Ji CM of Goa”.

Ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar left for the US on late Tuesday night for further treatment. He was earlier admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital.

Parrikar left for the US by a special flight from Mumbai airport, according to a senior official of the chief minister office.

The Goa Chief Minister left for the US in Air India flight at around 1.30 am. He is accompanied by a doctor and his elder son, Utpal, a senior official from CMO said.

Parrikar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15 for “mild pancreatitis” treatment.

He was discharged on February 22, and on the same day attended the session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, where he presented the budget and made a brief speech.

He returned to Goa on Friday (February 22) to deliver a truncated annual budget speech, before being admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital late on 25 February for dehydration and low blood pressure. He was discharged from the hospital on 1 March.

Before leaving for Mumbai on Tuesday, Parrikar held a series of meetings, including one with senior state ministers.

Parrikar also informed Governor Mridula Sinha on Tuesday about his absence from the country. In the letter, Parrikar also informed the governor about the interim arrangement of a Cabinet advisory committee to guide the state administration.

The letter says that he would be chairing the meeting of the council of ministers, whenever it is held, through video conferencing from abroad.

“If that is not possible for any reason, or I may decide at later point of time, the minister nominated by me shall preside the meeting and I will separately instruct the chief secretary in such exigency,” the letter said.

He also informed that a team of three ministers Sudin Dhavalikar (MGP), Francis D Souza (BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party) will function as a Cabinet advisory committee.

The committee shall meet at least once a week, at such point of time and place, and is empowered to decide unanimously amongst themselves on certain important financial year ending issues. The committee shall consult the finance department before taking any financial decisions, Parrikar said in the letter.

Parrikar has deserted Goa: Congress

The Goa Congress has accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of deserting the state. The ailing Chief Minister left behind a committee of three senior ministers to handle administrative decisions.

“We are going to have a state ruled by three Chief Ministers at a given time. Imagine the chaos,” Congress state president Shantaram Naik told reporters at the party’s state headquarters.

“This is a clear violation of business rules. We wish him well in his medical treatment… he has deserted Goa.”

Naik also said that the state would now be ruled by “three musketeers” in Parrikar’s absence.
