Chief minister Mamata Banerjee On Thursday asked party leaders in West Midnapore to work together and ensure that all panchayat seats in the district are won by the Trinamul Congress in the upcoming panchayat polls.

Addressing the district administrative review meeting held in Midnapore, she said that there are allegations of internal feud among the leaders which are posing threat to various development works in the district.

While interacting with the MLAs in the district, Miss Banerjee rebuked Pradyut Ghosh, MLA from Narayangarh, asking him to stay away from infighting with Surya and Mihir, the two prominent party leaders and put up a united face.

When Mr Ghosh started complaining about the role of Public Works Department in a certain development works, Miss Banerjee became furious and said, “What are you doing in the district? You are fighting with each other and giving less time to the development works. You first put up a united face then you lodge complaint against others.” Miss Banerjee was also disappointed with the performance of Srikanta Mahato, MLA from Salboni.

“You will have to increase your political activities apart from government activities,” she said.

Miss Banerjee then called Nepal Singh, a prominent Trinamul Congress leader in Goaltore, asking him to take additional duties to look after Salboni and Goaltore areas.

She replaced ailing Mrigen Maiti, a legislative member from Midnapore, from supervising works.

Miss Banerjee also gave directions to her party leaders on countering the ‘communal BJP’ and asked them to be wary of elements trying to fan divisive politics before the upcoming panchayat polls.
