Malda, S Dinajpur officials begin CM trip preparations

Preparations for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visit.

The proposed tour of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to districts of Malda, and North and South Dinajpur is very likely to begin on 19 February and continue till the 23rd, sources have said. Administrative meetings, inauguration and laying of foundation stones for a big number of projects are on the cards.

The visit comes ahead of the rural polls in the state, which is considered to be very important from both administrative and political ends. According to administrative and Trinamul Congress sources, Miss Banerjee will be in Murshidabad on 19 February for her programmes there and may go to Malda the same day or in the morning the next day.

On the 20th, she is scheduled to hold an administrative meeting in Malda and hold a public meeting at Gazole where she is scheduled to inaugurate and begin several projects. “She may go to Balurghat in south Dinajpur in the evening for an administrative meeting the same day there.

She has a government programme at Gangarampur there the next day, from where she will head for Hemtabad in North Dinajpur for an administrative meeting in the evening. Later, on the 22nd, she has a programme at the Hemtabad police station field ad her trip to Gour Banga will conclude on 23 February,” sources said.

In Malda, administrative sources said projects worth thousands of crores of rupees will be inaugurated and flagged-off by the CM, which will include the completed ones and the upcoming ones. Yuba Abs at English Bazaaar, godowns under the regulated market authority, drinking water plant at Chanchal, English meduium Madrasah in English Bazaar, ITI at Habibpur and many more will be inaugurated, it is learnt.

Apart from that, more than 10 Karmatirthas, motherchild hub, will be inaugurated at Kaliachak and Sujapur, a substation at Ashapur, drinking water project at Harishchandrapur and foundation stones for many more projects will also be laid by the CM.

In South Dinajpur, the district administration is engaged in arranging the list of programmes the CM will be holding, and has started preparations in full swing. According to officials, the CM will reach Balurghat in the evening on 20 February, where she will be attending a meeting with district officials at the Balurghat stadium.

“Administration officials have started making spot visits in Balurghat and Gangarampur. A group of top officials on Tuesday visited the stadiums at Gangarampur and Balurghat where two different programs are scheduled,” sources said. According to official sources, the district administration has proposed to the chief minister’s office a list of over 100 new projects and unveiling of 60-70 completed ones in the district.

All officials of the district administration, including District Magistrate Sharad Kumar Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police Prasun Banerjee, Additional District Magistrates, SDO and SDPO visited the Gangarampur stadium on Tuesday and inspected the Balurghat stadium and circuit house too, it is learnt.

Prasanta Mitra, the Chairman of the Gangarampur municipality said, “We are thankful that our town has been selected for the public meeting. Officials have visited the stadium and the spot has been finalized. We have started preparations.”
