The Maharashtra Assembly on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution to rename the international airport and railway terminus in Mumbai by adding the word Maharaj in the original name.
The resolution to rename Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, while the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station will be renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus was passed by the assembly.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis moved the resolution in the Lower House saying the Assembly recommends to the Central Government to rename these two places.
Fadnavis also moved a resolution to recommend to the Central Government to change the name of Elphinstone Road Railway station to Prabhadevi.
Leader of Opposition, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil seconded the resolution.
The entire house welcomed the resolution and initiative of the government by thumping of desks.
Some members from treasury benches also raised slogan Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki jai in the House.
