A professor at Lucknow University was taken into police custody after allegations of harassment and question paper leaks surfaced during an ongoing university examination process, officials said on Saturday.
The controversy escalated after a female student approached the university administration with alleged audio recordings and other evidence, prompting the university to constitute an inquiry committee and file a formal complaint with the police. The matter has led to concerns over examination integrity as well as the safety of students within the institution.
According to the police, a case is being registered at Hasanganj Police Station based on a written complaint submitted by the Controller of Examinations of the university. The accused professor, identified as Dr Paramjit Singh, is currently being interrogated.

Student submitted audio recordings to university
Police said the complaint alleged that the professor had engaged in obscene conversations with a female student and offered inducements in exchange for undue favours.
The student, a final-year BSc student, also allegedly handed over audio recordings linked to the leaking of question papers for examinations currently being conducted by the university.
The complaint, initially submitted at Mahanagar Police Station on May 15, was later taken up for legal action at Hasanganj Police Station.

Police said the university administration treated the allegations seriously and formed an internal inquiry committee before moving ahead with the formal complaint.
The investigation into the case will now be supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mahanagar.
