With garbage piles rising across the capital, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD House, Ankush Narang, launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led municipal administration, calling the party’s “Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi” campaign a farce. Touring the Dhirpur and Kadipur wards of the Civil Lines Zon, here today, Narang pointed to the deteriorating waste management situation, accusing the BJP of indulging in photo-ops while failing to deliver on-ground results.
Narang highlighted the condition of the Nirankari Samagam Ground, a venue known for hosting Prime Minister’s rallies, now overwhelmed by garbage. “This is the same ground where national-level events are held, but today it has become a dumping site. I’ve brought a garland and a coconut for CM Rekha Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh so they can inaugurate this garbage mountain,” he remarked sarcastically.
He alleged that the MCD, PWD, and Delhi Jal Board were jointly responsible for unchecked dumping. “From Majlis Park to Wazirabad’s Ramghat and now Nirankari Ground — garbage mountains are rising, all in the Mayor’s own zone,” Narang added, questioning the effectiveness of the month-long clean-up campaign that began on August 1.
Citing internal admissions, he said BJP councillors themselves acknowledged in Standing Committee meetings that garbage has piled up across Central, South, and West zones. “If the Mayor can’t manage his own backyard, how will he clean the city?” he asked.
In Kadipur’s Ward No. 7, Narang found over 10 garbage heaps. He claimed that only a fraction of the required tipper trucks were in operation and most were in poor condition. “Where five trucks are needed, only two show up. Loaders are in short supply, and the vehicles are so bad they have to be push-started,” he stated. Letters from engineers highlighting these issues have reportedly gone unanswered.
Narang accused BJP leaders of staging symbolic clean-up events in spotless areas while neglecting real hotspots. “Despite a so-called four-engine government, at the Centre, Delhi Government, MCD, and the LG, Delhi is drowning in filth,” he said, demanding accountability from CM Rekha Gupta and Mayor Singh.
He concluded, “Appointing a dummy like Raja Iqbal Singh as Mayor was a mistake. If he can’t fix his own ward, how will he fix Delhi?”
