As reports from morning suggested a neck-and-neck fight between the BJP and the congress in Manipur, political analyst failed to notice the surge in independent votes.
'Others’ turned out to be decider in this poll with massive 11 seats.
BJP at 21 and O Ibobi-led Congress at 27 now depend on the mercy of the independents to form government in the Northeastern state.
Others’ continued to show impressive improvements from morning itself and secured a well deserved 11 seats.
Of 60 assembly seats, Manipur which has gone under counting for 59 seats does not have a single-majority party and is totally dependent on the independents to form government in the state.
Manipur economic blockade, talks of creation of new districts and strong anti-incumbency against the ruling congress seem to have marred the prospects of Ibobi government to seek another term.
BJP has been successful in making mark in the state with no-presence and dominated by Congress from past 15 years. Strong voters’ turnout and support of Hindu community ‘Meitis’ have also gone to help the saffron party in the state.
Earlier, an expected see-saw battle between activist Irom Sharmila and the incumbent chief minister O Ibobi turned out into a damp squib with the former posing no fight to Manipur CM with mere 90 votes.
Sharmila was also reported saying never to contest election again after the embarrassing defeat.
Meanwhile, after a good show by the BJP, the Textile Minister Smriti Irani tweeted; BJP's electoral gain in Manipur is a reiteration of support by the people of the North East for PM @narendramodi ji's 'Act East' policy.
Apart from good show in Manipur BJP also routed its way to gain complete majority in the UP and Uttarakhand and came almost near to win Goa. Congress could find solace in Punjab only.

If the existing trend is to be followed, Manipur is clearly staring at hung assembly.
The majority mark in the state is 31.
