A 74-year-old woman was allegedly mauled to death by a leopard in Recong Peo area of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Police said that the incident took place on the intervening night Friday-Saturday in Ribba area when the woman was sleeping alone in her room.
“The woman identified as Lapsar Devi was found missing from her room after her family members heard commotion after leopard’s attack and informed the police,” Police said.

After thorough search by her family members and neighbours, the woman’s body was found 200 mt away from the residence.
Police said that the woman along with family members had gone to sleep in their respective rooms after having dinner. “After midnight, the leopard allegedly broke open the door of the room in which the woman was sleeping and attacked her. Hearing the commotion, her family members woke and started looking for her, however, by the time, they located her, the woman had died of injuries, sustained in the attack,” Police said.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department officials had laid a trap in the area to capture the leopard as it has been declared man-eater. The officials have also advised the locals to not to venture in the nearby forest as the leopard might attack.
