Expressing surprise over amendment in the Section 118 of Himachal Pradesh Land Tenancy and Reforms Act, 1972, Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of facilitating the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) General Secretary and Incharge Media Department Naresh Chauhan lambasted the state government for proposing to bring about amendment in the Act in the name of simplification, which the party said is not in the interest of the public of the state.

He raised serious doubts on the hurry that the state government was exercising for the proposed amendment, barely within 60 days of the newly formed government. Congress cautioned that they will not allow the amendment and they will oppose it both inside the Assembly session and also outside.

He dared the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to clear the air on motive behind the justification of the simplification of the Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Land Tenancy and Reforms Act.

“The Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur who himself hails from a farming community should see the interest of the 70 lakh people of the state who are small and marginal farmers and not give benefit to other people belonging to RSS,” he charged.

Chauhan said that the Congress will be soon launching the third phase of “Jawab De Sansad, Hisab De Sansad” on March 11 from Kuthlehr of Una district which will further cover all other blocks of the state and the HPCC chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu will be taking it up vehemently especially in all the constituencies that are the stronghold of BJP.

He criticised the state government for appointment of RSS people on the important posts and charged the state government of promoting saffronisation in the government machinery.

He attacked the state government for failure in maintaining law and order situation in the state and charged that BJP had ahead of the Assembly election politicised the law and order situation in the state to gain political mileage involving ‘Gudia case” and forest guard Hoshiyar Singh case.
