A quiet Wednesday morning in Basdila Buzurg village of Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district turned tragic when a 25-year-old man allegedly shot dead his 18-year-old sister-in-law before fatally turning the weapon on himself. The incident occurred under the Tamkuhi Raj police station jurisdiction.
Three gunshots break the morning silence
Around 9 am on Wednesday, villagers heard three successive gunshots coming from inside a locked room at a local residence. Family members had already gathered near the door after hearing a heated argument from within, but before they could intervene, the shots rang out in quick succession.
Local police from Tamkuhi Raj station arrived after being alerted and broke open the door to find both individuals lying in a pool of blood with severe gunshot wounds.
A country-made .312 bore pistol was recovered from inside the room.

Who were the victims
The deceased man has been identified as Jitendra Prajapati, 25, originally from the Uchkagaon police station area in Bihar’s Gopalganj district. The young woman, identified as Naina, 18, was his sister-in-law, the younger sister of his wife, Baby, whom he had married roughly a year ago.
Post-mortem reports indicate Naina sustained bullet injuries to her forehead and chest. Jitendra was found with a gunshot wound to his temple.
How the morning unfolded
Jitendra had arrived at his in-laws’ residence in Basdila Buzurg village the previous evening and stayed overnight. The following morning, Naina went to his room to serve him breakfast. This was a routine gesture that, according to investigators, quickly escalated into a confrontation.
Shortly after she entered the room, Jitendra locked the door from the inside. A loud argument broke out, prompting family members to rush toward the room and urge them to open the door.
Within moments, the first gunshot was fired, followed rapidly by two more.
Obsession and pressure, say family members
According to statements given by family members to investigators, Jitendra had developed what they described as an unhealthy obsession with Naina over the months following his marriage to her elder sister. He reportedly visited the family frequently. They said he had been putting a pressure on everyone to allow him to marry her.
Preliminary findings suggest he shot Naina during a confrontation before shooting himself.
