Kalimpong police on Sunday exhumed the body of a man allegedly killed and buried by his three sons at Lower Dung Lolay Gram Panchayat on Kalimpong district. Police said they have sent the body for post-mortem. Source said that Kuber Rai had died a sudden death on 19 January last, and that his final rites were conducted by his three sons.

However, people around suspected foul play and one Yuden Lepcha had filed a complaint at the Kalimpong police station regarding the death. Police started investigations and found that Manikumar Rai, 38, Sunil Rai, 36, and Puran Rai, 26, had murdered their father.

The trio has now been arrested. The siblings were produced in the court, which sent them in three days’ police remand. “Once the trio was taken in police custody, they admitted that they killed their father.

Police then went to Lolay to recover the body in the presence of Swapnajit Saha, the deputy-magistrate deputy- collector. A police source said Rai often used to come home drunk and he usually picked fights with his family members. The trio has been slapped with cases under section 302, 201, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and they will be produced in the court again on Monday.
