Taratala rescue ops Day 3: 33 taken out of debris; 18 under treatment, 15 dead

A total of 33 workers have been brought out of debris as rescue operations continued onto the third day after the underconstruction warehouse at Taratala collapsed on Wednesday, leaving at least 15 dead so far.

Among all those who were injured in the tragic incident, 18 are currently under treatment; two of them succumbed to their injuries over Thursday and Friday afternoon, officials said.

According to sources, police have not been able to identify two of the 14 deceased, aged about 45 years. Four bodies, including these two, will be taken for post-mortem at SSKM police morgue on Friday.

Among those injured, three are in critical condition. They have been identified as Rajesh Ruidas, Khalek Sarkar and Badan Munda. Another patient has been transfered to the High Care Unit (HCU) at SSKM, following improvement in his health condition. The rest 14 are currently in the disaster ward.

According to a senior Kolkata Police officer three of the deceased were minors who had been engaged as construction workers at the site.

The deceased have been identified as Krishna Chowdhury (49), Rohit Chowdhury (20), Chandrama Chowdhury (60), Rahul Chowdhury (17), Pappu Kumar Rajak (40), Ghee Kumar (17), Asgar Hussain (54), Sahil Sardar (17), Hasan Imam (44), Ganesh Kalandi (45), Navin Singh (44) and Swapan Mondal (56). Most of them were declared brought dead at the hospital.
