West Bengal Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul took on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over its criticism against the encounter of the Baruipur encounter questiong whether one should worship and offer aarti to those who maul women to death and humiliate them.

“Are we supposed to worship or offer aarti to those who maul and humiliate women? And if someone tries to escape, this is the inevitable outcome,” Paul said speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

Elaborating on the gruesome incident, the Asansol Dakshin MLA said, “The eleven-year-old girl suffered countless stitches and was brutally mauled to death. Society will give an answer to Trinamool which is supporting such action.”

Hitting out at the Trinamool Congress, the senior BJP leader said that the Mamata Banerjee-led party is “not doing anything out of character” and had acted in the same manner over the last 15 years, as far as women’s safety was concerned.

“Trinamool is acting in the same way as it has done over the last 15 years; they aren’t doing anything out of character. Over these fifteen years, under ex-Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, women were burned, their homes torched, they were molested, and yet no one was punished,” she described.

“This is exactly what the Chief Minister has done all along. They are merely going by their pattern of behavior; there is nothing surprising about it,” Paul added.

The Asansol Dakshin MLA further said that while the TMC, which is in opposition in the state, has the right to speak their minds, the people of Bengal has already given their answer to their stance, through the electoral ballot.

“Let Trinamool say what they will; speaking is a democratic right. But the people of Bengal have already delivered their verdict on such a party. We have no need to respond to them ourselves,” she said.
