The new building of the Petropole police station in West Bengal’s Bongaon was finally handed over the local cops after a long delay of three years allegedly due to political hurdles.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had inaugurated the new building of the police station in Bongaon on May 9, 2023. However, the previous West Bengal government did not put it to use despite it being a central government project.

After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal following the recently held assembly elections, the new building was formally handed over to the local police personnel in the presence of Land Port Authority of India (LPI) officials, police officials, and the state Food and Cooperative Affairs Minister Ashok Kirtania.

The Petrapole police station will function under the Bongaon Police District. Petrapole serves as the primary border crossing between India and Bangladesh.
