West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Samik Bhattacharya expressed disbelief over the political crisis faced by the Trinamool Congress, his party’s prime political opponent in the state, amid the recent spike in egg attacks against TMC leaders and workers.

“The political party which has been in power for three terms, the party whose MPs has been part of the central government, the party which has 22 Rajya Sabha MPs, how can such a party get demolished so swiftly after being defeated in the West Bengal assembly elections,” Bhattacharya said speaking to reporters in Kolkata, referring to the recent split within the TMC ranks across both the legislative and parliamentary levels.

Referring to the fear of public wrath, especially at the back of such frequent ‘egg attacks’ faced by TMC cadres, the state BJP chief questioned, “How can they be in such a state that their MLAs are frightened to get out of their houses fearing getting attacked with eggs?”

“How can their party workers not open their offices? Their workers are locking up their party offices in fear,” Bhattacharya further asked.

The senior BJP leader even pointed out large scale corruption carried out during the erstwhile TMC regime at prominent “hubs” in West Bengal.

“Sonarpur, Barasat and Siliguri had emerged as hubs for forging Aadhar cards. These were our allegations. You could get Aadhar cards, PAN cards instantly,” he said.

Issuing a strong warning against the TMC, he said, “All these mischiefs are coming to light now. This is just the beginning,” adding that, “If Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari himself gets out to catch criminals he won’t be able to do anything else.”

Elaborating on the positive investment environment created in the state after the change in government in West Bengal, Bhattacharya said, “After the new government has come to power in West Bengal, several chambers of commerce are inviting us. This is because the message has reached thorughout Bengal that a new industry-friendly government has come in place.”
