Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday expressed support for the principle of one nation one election. Khattar said it would be possible only with the consent of all political parties and an amendment in the Constitution. The BJP is ready for this, he added.

The CM was interacting with reporters at the residence of Director, Haryana Scheduled Castes and Finance Development Corporation, Sukhbir Chandolia, in Bohar village of Rohtak district.

The Haryana CM said one nation-one election would provide relief from financial burden caused by holding elections again and again. Apart from this, development works also got affected and delayed due to imposition of the Code of Conduct during the elections.

The plan to hold elections together could become possible in 2024 if all political parties extend cooperation. The BJP is ready for simultaneous elections in the state.

Replying to another question, the CM said the state government is framing Student Transport Safety Policy. Under this policy, transportation facility would be provided, especially to girls, coming from the rural areas. Besides, places where there is no proper facility, small vehicles would be run to provide smooth transportation.

Khattar said under this policy, nodal officers would be appointed in schools and colleges. The scheme would be implemented for both boys and girls, and fares would be decided on distance basis.

Efforts are being made to further improve the quality of education in schools and provide the students better academic environment. For this, rationalisation is being carried out in schools where the teaching staff is surplus and students are in less in number, to adjust such students and teaching staff in big schools. This would increase in the number of teachers in schools and ensure better education.

Replying to another question, Khattar said the BJP government had been filling the potholes dug by the Congress Government. It has also got completed such works as were left pending by the Congress government.
