In a huge blow to the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government, the Kerala high court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the case related to murder of Youth Congress activist, Suhaib in Kannur.

The Single Bench of Justice Kemal Pasha issued the order after making the observation that the investigation being carried out by the Kerala police was not satisfactory. The court in its order said that the CBI should probe it as a fresh case in order to bring out the truth and asked the police to hand over the case diary to the CBI Thiruvananthapuram unit.

The order came in a petition filed by Suhaib’s parents, C P Mohammad and S P Razia. Earlier, when the case was being considered, the CBI counsel said that the agency isready to take over the case, if the court orders so.

Pronouncing the judgment, the court observed that workers at lower levels of the political parties were used as pawns in the hands of political leaders to exterminate their political opponents. It also observed that the conspiracy behind the political murders in Kannur is never brought to light.

“The question why the police didn’t invoke UAPA despite the accused having hurled bombs and created terror situation gives room for many doubts.

Political killings should end. Earlier also such killings have happened and the conspiracy behind it had been hushed up. Now on, this is not possible. The conspiracy will have to be probed,” the court said.
