Amid reports that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to hoist the national flag at a management school in Palakkad on the Republic Day, the CPI-M-led LDF government in Kerala on Tuesday issued a circular directing that only institutional heads should hoist national flags in schools on Republic Day.

The General Administration department Secretary BiswanathSinha issued the circular containing the guidelines with regard to the Republic Day flag hoisting in educational institutions and government offices.
It directs that only the institutional heads can hoist flags in government and aided schools, and also directs that national anthem must be recited during the flag hoisting.

There were reports that the RSS chief Mohan Bhagavat would hoist national flag in a school in Palakkad in Kerala on the Republic Day. However, with the circular in place, the RSS chief does not have official sanction to hoist national flag in government/ aided school in the state.

Mohan Bhagavat had hoisted the national flag at Karnaki Amman aided School in Palakkad on last Independence Day, defying a restraining order by the Palakkad district collector, who cited a rule that only people’s representatives or school functionaries can hoist national flag on Independence Day at government-aided schools.

RSS plans to poke the LDF government in the state once again by inviting its Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagawat to hoist the national flag on Republic Day at the BharathiyaVidyaNiketan CBSE school at Kallekadu in Palakkad
