Polling for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election 2025 ended at 6 pm on Tuesday. As per Election Commission officials, 47.16 per cent turnout was recorded till 5 PM.

The bypoll, being seen as a popularity test for the Congress government in Telangana, was largely peaceful, with authorities deploying drones, CCTV surveillance, and real-time monitoring systems to oversee the process.

Key candidates and early voters in Jubilee Hills

Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli and BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha were among the early voters who cast their votes in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills constituency. Rajamouli, accompanied by his son SS Karthikeya, voted at a booth in Shaikpet, while Sunitha, the widow of late MLA Maganti Gopinath, exercised her franchise in Srinagar Colony.

BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy and Congress nominee V Naveen Yadav also voted in their respective polling booths early in the day.

Law and order situation during polling in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Police said cases were registered against three sitting MLAs and two former MLAs for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during polling.

Two cases were filed at the Madhuranagar Police Station against Congress MLAs Beerla Ilaiah, Ramachandranayak, and Ramdas, while another case was registered at Borabanda Police Station against former BRS MLAs Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Methuku Anand.

How drones and CCTV were used for election monitoring

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar monitored the polling process from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), using 150 drone cameras for real-time supervision. Notably, this is the first time in India that drones have been deployed to cover all polling stations in a constituency.

Sajjanar said that the entire voting process was proceeding in a peaceful and orderly manner, with 900 CCTV cameras providing live feeds from polling stations across the constituency.

Meanwhile, BRS leaders lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy, alleging that “non-local Congress leaders” were attempting to influence voters.

BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju claimed that the Congress government was “misusing power and indulging in bogus voting,” urging the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair election.

Jubilee Hills by-election results date and counting schedule

Over 4.01 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in the by-election, which features 58 candidates. The contest is largely triangular, with Congress’s V Naveen Yadav, BJP’s Lankala Deepak Reddy, and BRS’s Maganti Sunitha leading the fray.

Webcasting has been enabled at every polling station for continuous monitoring by election officials. Counting of votes will be held on November 14, and results will be announced by the Election Commission of India on the same day.

Why was the by-election held in Jubilee Hills

The Jubilee Hills by-election was necessitated following the death of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, whose passing earlier this year left the seat vacant.
