High-stakes contests in Karnataka
The southern State of Karnataka is preparing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a momentous event. It will unfold in 28 constituencies over two phases on April 26 and May 7.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley the incharge of Gujarat for the coming assembly elections.
Besides, Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Nirmala Sitharaman and P.P. Chaudhary have been made co-incharges to assist Jaitley in the crucial elections, the party announced.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has been given the charge of Karnataka assembly elections, with Power Minister Piyush Goyal as his deputy.

The party also announced the appointment of Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot as the incharge of Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.
The assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are likely to be held later this year or early next year.
