In all 120 persons were arrested from across the city and 2500 persons in the districts for various snap and unscheduled processions and demonstrations. On Tuesday, in between 1.35 pm and 2.25 pm members of Burrabazar and Chowringhee Youth Congress held snap demonstrations intermittently near South and North Gates of the Assembly House and also near the North Gate of Raj Bhavan on Government Place(North) against privatisation, price hike, recent Rs 11,000crore scam of Nirav Modi.

In all 79 demonstrators ,76 men and three women were arrested and sent to Central Lock-Up at Lalbazari. On Tuesday at 2 pm some members of Citu(the labour organ of the CPI-M)also tried to hold snap demonstrations near the North Gate of Raj Bhavan on Government Place(North), over Centre’s move to privatise different PSUs, FRDI Bill and recent bank scam.

Total 12 demonstrators were arrested by the on-duty police and sent to Lalbazar. Around 3.10 pm a group of students of different unions like PDSF, USDF, AISA, RYL and others assembled near the foot of Vidyasagar Statue inside College Square. They organized an unscheduled procession All the 27 were arrested including 18 men and nine women. They were sent to Jorasanko police station.

At least six persons including a police personnel were injured after a law-violation programme conducted by the trade unions of the Left parties went berserk at Midnapore Collectorate office in West Midnapore On Tuesday.

The trade unions of the Left parties staged the law-violation programme at all district headquarters across the state to protest various issues including alleged corruption in governance by the Trinamul Congress, FRDI Bills and recent financial scam in banks.

Accordingly, hundreds of workers and leaders of trade unions of the Left parties took a rally from Keranitola at around 12 noon and reached the Collectorate More in Midnapore.

They broke the first barricade of the police and when they tried to break the second one, the police put up a resistance which led the clash between them. Similar law-violation programme was carried out at Krishnagar in Nadia. In total 2500 persons were arrested and released on bail in Midnapore and Nadia.
