Delhi’s social welfare minister, Ravinder Indraj Singh, on Wednesday highlighted the importance of sanitation workers, stating that they play a very vital role in keeping Delhi clean, and it is the duty of every citizen to extend cooperation to them.
Indraj said that in a bid to ensure a grand celebration of the upcoming Ramleelas, active participation from the citizens of the national capital in the ongoing Clean Delhi Campaign is essential.
Delhi’s social welfare minister has taken part in the “Swachhta Abhiyan: Freedom from Garbage for Delhi” along with local residents and sanitation workers (Swachhta Praharis) near the Delhi Consumers Cooperative Wholesale Store (DCCWS) in Rohini Sector-24 and encouraged the sanitation workers and expressed gratitude for their tireless efforts.
Indraj emphasised that “Cleanliness is our moral responsibility” and urged the citizens to make it a habit to dedicate one day every week to shramdaan (voluntary contribution of labor) and join sanitation workers in cleanliness drives.
He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and with the appeal of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhiites are transforming the “Freedom from Garbage” campaign into a people’s movement.
He appealed to the residents of Delhi not to throw garbage in the open near their homes or markets but to use public dustbins.
Indraj suggested that people should segregate wet and dry waste at the household level and also deposit them separately in the Municipal Corporation’s collection vehicles.
He asserted that waste should never be thrown into drains, as it clogs them and leads to waterlogging, thereby creating unnecessary hardship for sanitation workers.
