Within three weeks of the rape and murder of a four-month-old girl in Rajwada, the Indore sessions court on Friday awarded death sentence to the convict.
The horrific incident had taken place on 20 April.
The body of the victim was found on 20 April in the basement of a building near Rajwada Palace and the accused was arrested the same day. He was produced before the court on April 21.
Even after the court found him guilty under sections of kidnapping, rape, murder and relevant sections of POCSO act, the accused reportedly maintained that he didn’t do anything.
According to media reports, the accused is the cousin of victim’s mother. Reportedly, he had an argument with the mother of the victim, a day before he committed the crime.
Early morning on 21 April, he returned to the family when they were sleeping under an open space near the historic Rajwada Palace and abducted the girl.
Indore Deputy Inspector General HC Mishra had earlier said that the CCTV images showed him carrying the baby on his shoulder as he took her to the basement of a commercial building, around 50 metres away from where her family was sleeping.
After raping the child, he threw her on the ground from a height and she died.
