Traders’ body Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch General Secretary and MCD activist Praveen Kapoor on Tuesday said that the recent arrest of a senior official in the civic body has validated his long-standing contention that unaccountable deputation officers posted in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Additional Commissioners (ACs) are allegedly a cause of corruption.

Kapoor said, “I first raised this issue during a TV show from the Town Hall porch back in 2008. It may have taken 18 years to prove my point, but it is time to reserve at least 50 per cent of DC and AC posts for MCD or Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service officers, who can be held accountable.”

Kapoor further said that it is time to reflect on how long deputationists will be allowed to function in this manner and allegedly impact the functioning of the MCD.
