An IIT-graduate engineer has been arrested in Mathura for raping a woman. The accused has been identified as Abhishek Mishra (29), a native of Odisha. After becoming a monk, he changed his name to Adikarta Narayan Das. A 22-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh, a N.Sc nursing student, has accused him of rape.

Police said here on Tuesday that the victim charged that Abhishek Mishra drugged her with milk under the guise of Prasad, raped her, and then took photos and videos. He then blackmailed her and demanded Rs 5 lakh. The accused even threatened her of making the videos and photos viral if she refused.

On May 25, the student complained to the Mathura SSP. A case was registered at the police station that same day. On June 1, the accused was arrested at his home in Radhakund. Two young women and a young man were also arrested with him. Police found obscene photos of more than 12 young men and women on the accused’s mobile phone.

Initial investigations revealed that he gave online sermons on YouTube and other social media platforms. Following this, many people were influenced by him and contacted him. Initially, he spoke about knowledge and religion, but his targets were educated, wealthy, and young women employed in large companies.

After giving online sermons for a few days, he would trap them, then call them to Mathura and spend a few days with them. After this, he would force them into physical relations by giving them drugs in the name of Prasad. He would also take photographs and videos.

According to the police, the accused disclosed during interrogation that he is originally from Odisha. Five years ago, he completed B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee. Then, he got a job in a company with a salary package of Rs 20 lakh annually. But he left his job and came to Mathura and has been living here for three years. He first rented a house in Radhakund, Govardhan, and later bought one.
