IGMC doctor tests positive for swine flu

A senior doctor with Radiology department tested positive for swine flu on Friday.

The doctor, 58, has been put on ventilator in the hospital, confirmed Senior Medical Superintendent at IGMC, Dr Ramesh Chand.

Sources said following this, the close contacts of the patient and more than 100 doctors and para medics in IGMC were given prophylactic treatment for swine flu as a precaution by the Chief Medical Officer’s office, Shimla.

The swine flu cases have been trickling in off and on in Himachal Pradesh hospitals this year and two deaths, including one of a tourist, have been reported so far. According to health officials, this is an unsual trend as swine flu generally occurs in winter season.
