West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday congratulated Indian cricket team for winning the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand and specially praised Ishan Porel’s performance.

Banerjee took to Twitter saying, “Congratulations to the Indian team for winning the U-19 World Cup cricket. Keep winning. Specially proud of Ishan Porel for his performance in the semi final/ final”.

Ishan Porel, who is a right arm medium pace bowler from Bengal was born on 5 September, 1998 in Hooghly.

Porel was the star performer in the semi-final against Pakistan, where he took four wickets just for 17 runs. In the final against Australia, Porel dismissed opening batting order of Kangaroo team by sending their openers Jack Edwards and Max Bryant back to stand.

Interestingly, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World cup wasn’t a very smooth ride for the star Indian bowler Ishan Porel, as he was on the verge of being ruled out from the tournament after he got injured in the opening match against Australia.

However, the team management showed faith in him and he proved them right by making his comeback in the quarter-final against Bangladesh and returned figures of 5-2-8-0.
