Himachal to convert Pahari Gandhi’s house into memorial

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday said the house of Baba Kanshi Ram, who is also known as Pahari Gandhi, would be renovated and converted into memorial if his family wishes.

Speaking on the occasion of birth anniversary of Baba Kanshi Ram, Thakur said the government would renovate the house which was lying in dilapidated condition in his ancestral village Gurnwad in Dadasiba of Kangra district.

“It would be developed into a memorial provided his family members agree to hand over it to the government,” he said.

The government wants his heirs to hand over the house of Baba Kanshi Ram to the government so that it could be renovated and developed as a memorial.

“The memories of Baba Kanshi Ram, his belongings and poetic collection could be preserved in this memorial so that coming generations could go through the same and get inspiration from his life,” he said.

He said the people of the country and state were grateful to Baba Kanshi Ram for his contribution for country’s independence.

Thakur added the government was committed towards welfare of freedom fighters and their dependents and they would be given appropriate honour.
