Himachal CM slams Cong, lists govt’s achievements

Jai Ram Thakur

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday advised Congress leaders to refrain from making statements out of sheer frustration and said it is unfortunate that the leaders are expecting massive development within a month of formation of the new government.

Addressing a public meeting at Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district, Thakur while referring to Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, said the first and foremost development was rooting out Congress from power in Himachal Pradesh.

“There was a change of generation,” he said.

He said his government’s first decision was taken in the interest of elderly people of the state, by reducing the age of social security pension from 80 to 70. “There were very few beneficiaries who were above 80 years of age and that was the reason we took a decision to reduce the age to 70 years for pensionary benefits to many,” he said.

He said Congress leaders are forgetting that during their regime various mafias were active.

“We have launched ‘Shakti Button’, a mobile App for safety of women with unique features. Apart from this we launched ‘Hoshiar Help line, on toll free number 1090 to tighten noose around the forest mafia which was being monitored by Chief Minister’s office,” he said.

The government had terminated extension to retired officials, Thakur said, pointing out that there were more than 32,000 employees who had sought an extension in the previous Congress regime. “The new government though has not given extension to anyone but keeping in view the shortage of staff in the revenue department, extension has been granted to Patwaris and Kanungos till new appointments are made,” he said.

He alleged that the Congress government delayed detailed project report (DPRs) of the 69 National Highways for one and a half years. As of now, the government has directed completing the process of tenders for DPR preparation by 31 March. In addition, the government would initiate the road maintenance policy to bring qualitative improvement in roads.
