The Uttarakhand High Court has taken strong note of poor conditions of primary schools in the hill state. Passing a judgment at Nainital on Friday, the High Court asked the Uttarakhand government to provide furniture to all primary schools within six months. The court asked the state government to stop pay of education officers from the start of the new year if the order is not adhered to.

The HC passed the judgment on a PIL filed by Dehradun resident Deepak Rana. The petitioner expressed concern over the pathetic condition of government primary schools. Most of the schools function from dilapidated buildings, theirs is no furniture and black boards. Many schools are without toilet facilities and many others without a potable water connection.
