A 21-year-old state-level badminton player was allegedly kidnapped and beaten to death by a minor girl’s family over a romantic affair in Haryana’s Faridabad, police said.
The victim, identified as Monu, a resident of Saidpur village in Bhiwadi, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital on Friday after being allegedly held captive and brutally tortured for three days.
According to the police, the trouble began in April when Monu allegedly eloped with the minor daughter of one Kulbhushan, a resident of Adhana Patti in Tigaon. Following this, the girl’s father registered a case against Monu at the Tigaon Police Station. While the police successfully recovered the girl, Monu had been evading arrest.
On May 17, Monu left his home to join the ongoing police investigation at the Tigaon Police Station but was allegedly abducted by the girl’s relatives en route.
“On May 20, we received a call from the police stating that Monu was found in a severely injured condition outside Kulbhushan’s house. We immediately rushed him to a private hospital, but he died during treatment,” Narendra Dayma, the victim’s uncle, said.
Dayma added that Monu was a bright student who had recently passed his Class 12 exams with 70 per cent marks and had represented his school in the State Badminton Championship. He is survived by his brother and father, Bhim Singh, who works as a driver.
Faridabad Police Spokesperson Yashpal confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections, including kidnapping, based on the family’s complaint.
“The girl used to visit her maternal uncle’s house in Saidpur village, where she and Monu developed a relationship. Following the youth’s death, we have rounded up two suspects for questioning. Further investigation into the matter is underway, and raids are being conducted to nab the remaining accused,” the police spokesperson said.
