Haryana sees increase of over two lakh hectares in horticulture land

With an increase of 2.17 lakh hectare horticulture land this year, the total area under horticulture in Haryana has now reached up to 7.07 lakh hectare.

A spokesperson of the Horticulture Department said that the state has recorded an increase of 2.17 lakh hectare land up to October 2017 as earlier it was 4.90 lakh hectare during the year 2016-17.

Also, the production up to October 2017 has been increased 20.36 lakh metric tonnes (MT) from the production of 70.97 lakh MT during the corresponding year, he added.

He said that the total area of 215.55 hectares has been covered under protected cultivation at a cost of Rs. 38.04 Crore. Apart from this, additional area of 95.2 hectares has been covered under protected cultivation (poly house) and (net house) up to October 2017.

With a view to ensure water availability to crops, 215 community tanks have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 7.88 Crore during the year 2016-17. The 76 additional community water tanks have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.46 Crore at 100 per cent assistance up to October 2017.
