To curb activities of organised criminals, gangsters, prevent smuggling of illicit weapons and narcotics in the National Capital Region (NCR) especially in border areas, four states (Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Rajasthan and New Delhi) on Wednesday decided to set up a “Inter-State Crime Information Secretariat” in Gurugram.

This institutional mechanism will assist police of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Rajasthan and New Delhi to effectively coordinate, create common database and real time sharing of information to prevent and detect crime and check criminal activities.

This decision was taken at the inter-state crime coordination committee held in Gurugram. This meeting was also addressed by the Chief Minister (CM) Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, who said that the idea to hold this meeting was conceptualised during his informal meeting with UP CM, Yogi Adityanath.

Holding of such kind of quarterly meetings would certainly pay rich dividends to nab the inter-state gangs of criminals and check illegal activities, he said.

The meeting was attended by senior police officers from all four states. Later on, in a joint briefing, Haryana’s additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order, Mohd. Akil said that all the police officers have shared and deliberated upon various kinds of inter-state crimes and strategies to nab such criminals.

He said that it was also decided that regular meetings between police officers of all four states would also be held to ensure effective control on crime and to maintain law and order with mutual coordination.

It was also decided that telephone numbers of police officials at all levels would be shared in making better coordination and to prevent and detect inter-state crime.

Aiming to use social media in this series, appropriate groups of police officials would also be made. In addition, all the participating states would appoint a senior level Nodal Officer each for real time sharing of information.

He said that Haryana has sought cooperation from all the states especially from UP to keep smashing the network engaged in manufacturing and supply of illicit weapons in inter-state bordering areas.

It will be a big achievement for the police if we collectively could prevent manufacturing, transportation and procurement of illicit weapons. Haryana has also sought cooperation from Rajasthan in preventing illegal mining and problem of overloading.

A lot of emphasis was laid on sharing information for containing inter-state crime and criminals in real time. This would go a long way in increasing mutual coordination amongst these states. It was decided that the next quarterly meeting will be held in Noida, he added.
