Haryana’s Olympic gold medal winners will now be entitled for appointment to Haryana Civil Services (HCS) or Haryana Police Services (HPS) with seniority of eight years.

Giving details of the state’s new sports policy on Thursday, the sports and youth affairs minister, Anil Vij said it aims at promoting competitive sports in the state and to provide secure employment to outstanding sportspersons from the state at the end of their useful supporting lives.

The sportspersons of para, blind, deaf and special Olympics will also be entitled for government jobs, he added.

The minister said the initial appointments, whether in HCS or HPS or any other Group A, B or C posts will be with “sports” in parenthesis that would be dropped upon successful completion of the prescribed training and courses in the probation period.

Vij said that similarly, the Olympics silver medal winner will be entitled for appointment to HCS or HPS with four years seniority, the bronze medal winner for HCS or HPS, participants of quarter finals or above to Group A post and participants of below quarter final level in Olympics to Group B post.

He said that the gold, silver and bronze medal winner of four-year world Championship (restricted to Olympic Games) will be entitled for appointment to HCS or HPS (with four years seniority), HCS or HPS and Group A (other than HCS or HPS), respectively.

Similarly, the participants in the quarter finals or above and below quarter final level of this world championship will be entitled for Group A and Group B posts respectively.

The minister said that the winners of gold, silver and bronze medal in Asian Games would be entitled to HCS or HPS, Group A (other than HCS or HPS) and Group B posts respectively. The participants of quarter finals or above will be entitled for Group C post.

The minister said that the winners of gold, silver and bronze medal in Commonwealth Games or Other World or International Championship (restricted to Olympic Games) would be entitled to Group A (other than HCS or HPS), Group B and Group C posts respectively.

He said that the winners of the gold medal in an international championship (non-Olympic Games) would be entitled for Group B posts. The silver and bronze medal winners of this tournament would be entitled for Group C posts.
