Haryana govt to purchase land from farmers through e-Bhoomi portal

The Haryana government has decided to implement a special scheme under which it will purchase small landholdings from farmers with their consent through e-Bhoomi portal, consolidate these for use in development works. Barren land will also be purchased from the farmers.

Under the scheme, farmers would need to upload details, including the price of the land they wish to sell, on the e-Bhoomi portal, after which land would be purchased by the government as per requirement.

This was disclosed by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Kurukshetraon Saturday.

The CM reiterated that the state government would not acquire any land without the consent of farmers. “On the request of farmers, we have returned 3,000 acres of acquired land. We did not acquire cultivable land in Sonepat and Madina on the request of farmers. Land will be aquired only with the consent of the farmers,” he added.

Reiterating that the Haryana government was sensitive towards the interests of the farmers, he said compensation to the tune of Rs. 2,400 crore had so far been disbursed to the farmers. This included compensation of Rs. 268.7 crore announced, but not disbursed by the previous government.

He said 50 per cent of the announcements made by him in the last 32 months regarding development in the State had been implemented and the rest would be completed soon. Highlighting the various initiatives being taken for the welfare of farmers in the state, Khattar said the state government had decided to procure 50 per cent of the sunflower produce in the state and would ensure procurement of 75 per cent of the produce in the upcoming season.

He said while opposition parties were opposing implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, it will actually provide people relief from ten types of taxes and 65 per cent of the people would remain out of its purview.
