Khandelwal said that it was worth mentioning here that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) recognised ‘Meri e-Pustak’ of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Haryana as first ever state at the national level in developing it in-house (departmental resources and NCERT support only).

She said that students, teachers, educators and parents could access e-Books through multiple technology platform such as mobile phones and tablets (as e-pub) and from the web through laptops and desktops (as Flipbook). Meri e-Pustak also allowed users to carry as many books as their device supports.

In future the SCERT has a plan to develop trainings on all subject content of LEP and primary textbook’s activity based learning approach in the form of the online course. It was pertinent to add here that National University of Educational Planning and Administration NUEPA has also directed all states to go online through its school leadership course, Khandelwal said.

The official further stated that the Education Department was working on alternate solutions of trainings, in addition to existing face to face teachers training. SCERT was working on this project and developed an online course on LEP, named “Understanding LEP”. This course was aimed to give orientation to block level mentoring and monitoring officers to have the first hand awareness of programme.

This course comprised of text content, posters and audio or video content and also has an assessment facility of participating teachers. During the running of course, participants’ performance could be tracked on real-time basis and a team of experts remained available for support and mentoring during course.

The Prime Ministers’ Digital India campaign has promoted an extensive use of ICTs in the teaching-learning process. The SCERT Haryana, under Department of School Education was working hard to take various digital initiatives for teachers training under the Saksham Haryana Programme. Saksham Haryana was a systemic education transformation programme which aimed to make 80 per cent of students in government schools grade level competent, she added.
